: Motor Mounts For My 72

Having a heck of a time finding motor mounts for my 72 with a 350. Everyone says they have them and the part numbers match what they are suppose to, but none of them will fit over the perch on the frame. Not only that, but of all the brands I've looked at, they don't even match each other. I understand they should slide right on without having to beat them on but not be sloppy. The old motor mounts measure between 2 3/8 and 2 7/16 between the ears that slide over the perch and they fit perfectly. All the new ones measure between 2 1/8 and 2 5/16. I've looked at about a hundred at about 25 auto parts stores and I have yet to find one that will fit. Within the the same brand, I've found Korean made, Chinese, Indian, and US. They don't even match each other.

Someone else must have run in to this same problem.

I just went through the motor mount deal on the 67 and now we are putting a rat in the 71 and changing things around. Energy Suspension has what you are loking for in poly, www.energysuspension.com/prod1.html (http://www.energysuspension.com/prod1.html) . Your car uses the "tall narrow mounts", my 67 uses the "short wide mounts". Most of the motor mounts sold by the local parts stores are junk, GM still sells some of the mounts, not sure how far back they go.

There is nothing like rowing through the gears at 7500. Stick cars are so much fun they should be a controlled substance!

When I replaced my mounts I was surprised that they were VERY tight. No worries I dropped the motor in place a couple of times and they now fit perfectly. I think that they were purposly made to "interference" fit. In any event there have been no ill effects from them being stretched a bit. I bought them from Autozone FWIW.

If your car wasn't originally equipped with a 307, try a dealer and ask to take a look at ACM 2288. They're expensive, but they're real.

Are you sure the car did not have a 307 in it from the factory? If it did you need to buy the 307 motor mounts. That is what I do with mine.
