Hello group. I am putting a big block in my A-body and i have some concerns with the frame mounts that bolt to the motor mounts. I had a small block in the car before and i think i had the wrong mounts because i had to beat the s@*t out of the hedmans headers to make fit(are hedmans a poorer fitting header?) i bought mounts off ebay and where told they came from 67 small block chevelle. so i ordered new big block frame mounts from Original Parts Group and they look just like the small blocks. the pads are the same hieght as the small blocks and the pads will sit in basically the same place on the subframe. However they do drop down very quick right past the pad that the motor mount sits on. my question is has any one used OPG'S mounts and if so how did they work. i dont want to get into another hammer fight with new headers, however they are hooker because i have heard they fit better. i believe they are part number 2455. any help would be greatly appreciated. lemanster

I replaced my 350 sbc with tall deck 427 and used the original frame stands from the small block with moroso solid motor mounts on the block. Fit was great. Used hedman headers and they fit pretty good, had to "massage" them in a bit, but I figured that was because the block was almost a half inch taller.

This is what the big block frame mounts look like that should be in your car.

I also went with original parts group bbc frame mounts. I went to my local napa store and got big block chevelle mounts there. They fit pretty good. Sorry I don't have the part #.

Oil pan hitting? Maybe the oil pan is resting a little on the cross member? Sometimes the wrong oil pan will prevent the motor mounts from ligning up properly.

No the oil pan did not hit, it is the 7 qt. milodon. but my car is a lemans with chevy power graemlins/thumbsup.gif , and i know a A-Body is an A-body, it was just wierd having to beat the small block headers like i did. they were once pretty and coated now i dont think i could get 20 bucks on ebay. i hate to say i dont think i will ever run them(Hedman) again. i put hooker super comps sidepipe headers on a camaro i am restoring and i did not have to bang one tube. fit like a glove and these headers are long and fat. i was also wondering if me lowering the car could be responsible but with the camaro it is lowered also? the mounts i got from OPG look very similar to the picture lance. on my mounts the drop from the pad does not seem quite as severe as your picture. but i think i will stick with them. once again thanks all for posting and if anyone has had same issues with lowered cars i would like to hear from you. The BB and SB frame mounts on a '67 are exactly the same dimensionally...only difference is the BB mounts are re-enforced on the underside.
I know, I've had both types out and looked at them side by side when I did my '67 Elky.

Thanks Bill...i was still wondering about the lowering and if that could have been culprit with hedmans headers. however since that motor is outa'thar i should fogetabotit. Just hope i have better luck with the hooker big block headers. this is what i get for buying a lemans and not a chevelle graemlins/clonk.gif

would not go with anything other than the bowtie power though...except maybe a tremec 5 speed. sheesh what a bast@$d car this would be. kinda like the step child. thanks all for the responses. graemlins/hurray.gif

I know, I've had both types out and looked at them side by side when I did my '67 Elky. I don't belive that statement is true. I took a 283 out of my '67 malibu and put in a 396 using solid motor mounts. I have the engine out for a rebuild and I just looked at the mounts and compaired then to the picture lance-w posted. My mounts are not raised up where the long mount bolt goes through like the ones in the picture. They are flat. Somebody comfirm this. I'm thinking about changeing to big block mounts it they're differant and taller.

The only ones I've found on the net go for about $100.00. Can they be found cheaper?

Hey Bad i bought mine from OPG and where 120.00 i got some discount and the total to my door was 120.00. i know year one has them for around 80.00 however when i needed them(which i still have not truly need yet) they said they where outa stock and would ship the 18th of Jan. you might want to check there. i dont know what your time frame is and maybe you can get on the list and they will ship when year one recieves.

Lance W thanks for both pictures. my small blocks that where in the car with my 383 look just like yours. And my big blocks from OPG look like yours also. i will go ahead and stop worrying about pipes that are no longer on a car. graemlins/hurray.gif and worry about getting the RAT in the car.

Thanks for all replys what a great site and i have yet to catch s%#t for my non chevy body. LEmanster
