Hi, and thanks for having a forum.

I am trying to resurrect a '65 plain Jane Chevelle 4-door sedan with manual everything and a 6-cyl engine. It hasn't been run in the last year or so. Other than the usual precautions, what do I need to know about these engines?

Confession: I am a lost Mopar puppy with a weakness for this particular body style. I know nothing at all about Chevrolets, but I know a few things about '60s cars.

Thanks,

David

To get it running, I would just do the basics. Prime it (the distributors in the back, just in case you didn't know ;) tongue.gif ), Fresh gas, maybe a little gas straight into the carb, maybe new set of points, plugs, and wires?

Good to see you coming over from the dark side graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Let us know how things work out.

Squirt a couple/three shots of good old Marvel Mystery Oil in each cylinder if you replace the plugs. Then spin her over using the starter with the plugs out several times...

This will lube the rings some and help them re-seat a little better instead of them starting off dry.

Button her up and fire her off!!!

Been there, done that!! Worked fine for me....

That's what I thought, the usual. And thanks for the tip about the distributor location. Maybe even a Mopar guy could find it. smile.gif

I'm going to fire it up tomorrow and let you know how it goes. The owner says it's a survivor, a 70,000-mile 300 Deluxe 6-cyl with manual brakes and manual steering. Perhaps it will be mine.

Distributor in the back on an I-6 Chevy? I don't think so.... at least not the 230 from my brother's Nova.
