i pulled a valve spring to check clearance relating to a cam replacement (long story) any way, i hooked up the air in no. one spark plug hole (100 lbs) and pulled the valve spring. to my suprise the valve fell in the cylinder. did i screw this up. or is the seal between the valve and the head in need of machine work?
BTW for all you guys that were trying to help me, there would not have been enough clearance between the retainer and the seal. the previous owner had the umbrella type tall seals.
thanks again for that warning.
now then, everybody would like a good head job ;) but do you think my chevy needs one? graemlins/clonk.gif thanks john
i wonder if i'm ever going to get on the road again.

If the valve face to valve seat seal were that bad, I would think that the cylinder would have been dead, and you would have noticed it. With a 100 psi, it's almost impossible to force a valve off its seat when you remove the spring. I've tried to unseat them and couldn't budge them. The only thing I can think of is that there may have been a restriction between your compressor and the fitting you screwed into the spark plug hole in the head. Or, you have the air hose plugged into a regulator that was set at a much lower pressure. Have you been spray painting recently?

i didn't check that hose. it's the one that came with my comp. guage. hang on i'll be right back. wow damn good call, there's a check valve built into the hose. i guess the button on the test guage actuates that valve.
