Having trouble finding out which gas cap is correct for a 66 SS.

After going through every parts catalog I own, and coming up with many different answers, I thought I best check with the "experts" here at Team Chevelle. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Is it vented, non vented, or is there a special cap just for 66 396 cars that one catalog mentioned?

Just one of those stupid little annoying questions.

Hi Bob,

There is a gas cap just for 66SS cars. It is gray and ugly. Description: it looks like a thin cap for a jar, but the center part is curved slightly. So the edge is like the lid of a jar, but center is cupped somewhat.
I went through the same thing and I have found that it is non-vented. The GM part number is 3914958. I purchased mine from True Connections 909-688-6040. Check with Ground-up, they might have one.

I found the one you mentioned in National Parts Depot's catalog for $12.65

Apparently the other catalog guys aren't up on this one.

Maybe they will spot it here and be enlightened.

Isn't the original suppose to have an S on the center of the car?
