Hello Again . Seems like every time i start this thing , another problem arises graemlins/angry.gif . Took the chevelle around the block for first time .. After having engine rebuilt . Saw a puff of smoke from the front of engine , so i quickly got it home . Started it back up and noticed oil dripping from behind the harmonic balancer ? But it doesnt drip until engine warms up ? Any thoughts ?
Thanks Jason

If its the front seal , what would be the easiest way to correct the problem ?

Replacing it is about the only thing i know to do, if it's a BB their a little less frustrating than the SB, but still the balancer and timing chain are gonna have to come back off, maybe others with a better idea will chime in, good luck my man !!

The timing chain cover gasket set should have all the appropriate gaskets and seal

The chain shouldn't need to come off. Just the balancer and the cover. If you are careful, you might be able to change the seal without removing the cover but it's going to be easier to do it with the cover off.
Good Luck, Troy.

Did you reuse the old balancer? If so, check it to see if it's grooved on the seal mating surface when you pull it back off. If it is, you can either sleeve it or just replace the balancer. If, by some chance, you replaced the original balancer with a reconditioned balancer, you might want to take a micrometer and measure the snout, the part that goes up inside the crankcase. Some cheapo low quality rebuilders address the problem of grooved harmonic balancers by turning the snout down until the groove is gone, which is not the recommended fix.

This engine was just rebuilt with all new parts . The only part not new was water pump graemlins/clonk.gif .. The shaft on the water pump was bent which caused pulley to wobble .. There is where I think my problem arised from .. Is this posible ?

on my small block there was a small threaded hole in the front of the motor near the fuel pump. At idle it didnt leak but when the R's picked up it shot oil into the fan and then all over everything else. the hole actually went in to the passage for the fuel pump rod and wasnt pressurized until the motor revved to about 3000
just something to check
