Has anyone else seen the commercials touting these 3 new oils?

Does this seem like the real deal? I've trusted Mobil 1 in my engines for years, but 15,000 miles for an oil change? That would be great if true. I was wondering what you learned folks thought.

Read this. I've run Royal Purple to 17k miles, Mobil 1 to 14k miles (twice), no noticeable debris on the oil pan plug magnet in the wife's old '99 Blazer 4.3. Using the Mobil 1 in the Durango now. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Note that this is an independent "grass roots" study of the oils.

Even with dino oil, my friends Tundra's service manual says 7500 miles. And years ago, another friend had a Starion with the 2.6L turbo and Mobil recommended 7500.
The guy who introduced me to Mobil 1 20 years ago NEVER changed his oil. He basically did what the study above did. Only changed the filter and replaced the lost quart or so from the filter.

Ben,
I have been changing the Mobil 1 in my Tahoe about every 6k miles and really wondering why I was doing it after seeing how clean it comes out. It really depends a lot on the vehicle. Modern fuel injected engines are so much more efficient that they do not contaminate the oil as much as the older carbureted engines. I would bet that if a vehicle sees nothing but highway mileage, 15k would not be a problem at all. One that gets short tripped all the time however, might be a different story.

The only way to know how long you can extend the oil drain interval is to have oil analysis done and have them do the TBN test which tells you how much addive is left in the oil. If you were going to do 15,000 mile oil changes you would still want to do filter changes.
There are several companies that do oil analysis, here is a link to one of them.
