: Need Help with Start Up

I just dropped in a brand new 454 in my 72 Chevelle. Trying to fire it up for the first time however we can't get the motors to start. It's getting fuel.
I have a new Mallory Distributor and Coil. I believer the problem is I'm not getting a spark. I've pulled a plug out and I don't see a spark when cranking.
I have a friend disconnect the wires off of the old motor and I only had one wire labeled that came from the harness to the old HEI distributor. That wire has been placed on my coil. Could there be a wire that I forgot to hook up from the harness that's preventing it from starting?

I would appreciate the help!

Do you still have the HEI sytle set or did you switch to a remote coil and dist set up. Either way make sure the coil (+) has 12 volts when cranking and 12 volts when in the run posistion.
I am assuming the basics have been check already, dont laugh but I know people who forget the rotor !
Good luck

Switched over to a Mallory Coil which is wierd correctly. ROtor is in and teh correct firing order is in place.

If someone can correct me I switched over to a Summit mini Hi-Torq starter. As per summit they told me to only hook up the purple wire to the starter however I found out the red wire needed to be hooked up as well. There was also a yellow wire that I didn't connect. What is that wire?

The only that was connected from the factory harness was a single wire that is now conected to the positive coil.

Are there any other wires that need to be connected?

Thanks!

What was your ignition system set up prior to the conversion that would help. But the simple way to isolate your problem would be to check voltage at the coil (+) should have at least 12 volts at that terminal while cranking if not you will not have spark, if you wired your new set up and you had points originally you are probable using the resistor wire that steps down the voltage and will not fire a HEI coil 12 volts is the key

The car had a small block with an HEI that worked before the motor came out. I will test the voltage. I'm using a Mallory Coil and Mechanical distributor.

What will I need to do?
