: Distibutor off one plug

I just found that my distributor was off one plug as in the dist was installed one tooth off or so so the normal 1 on the dist cap is not #1 to the plug.

How will this effect the car's performance? Will it idle abnormal or not perform well. It is a new motor with the ultradyne 288/296 so I expected a rougher idle, but wondering if the dist being off effects my tuning of the car.

Hope you understand what I am trying to say.

It won't affect how it runs one bit. The ONLY thing that could happen, is the vac advance can might not allow you to turn the dist far enough to get the timing you want without bumping into something. Slim chance of that though.....

It really doesn't matter what position the rotor points to when #1 is at TDC compression stroke. Just make sure that you have #1 plug wire attached to the corresponding cap position to where the rotor is pointing.

Along the lines of the vacuum can, watch the ignition wires. See if they are rubbing against something they shouldn't or are too tight. Aside from that and the above mentioned things, should perform as normal.
