Had a strange thing happen today.I was tuning on my carb and adjusting timing. I had just put the timing light on the balancer to recheck initial timing and my timing tape wasn't there. I shut the car off, turned the engine over by hand with #1 plug out and verified comp. stroke when the timing tape came up to the pointer at 14btdc. It was right where I had it before, I restarted the engine, put the light on it and it was right on 14*. It was running fine when this happened. Is this possible or am I going batty. If a balancer is on its way out can the outer part rotate on the core and go back?

They usualy twist a few degrees one way and I've never seen one go all the way around. One of two thing, you are crazy or you were using the wrong plug wire :D

Take a permanent marker and draw a line connecting the inner and outer part, that way after you run it you will be able to see if its sprinning at all.
