i found a gen v 454 for 500 bucks . im in need of a core for my 496 buildup . is this motor good for a core ?i dont know what heads are on it but i am planning on goin with aluminum or some sq ports anyway..thx

Look for a Mark IV.

I used a Gen V in my '70 Elco.
You need a diffrent oil pan.
You need a electric fuel pump.
You need to be careful which head gaskets are used.

If those are not problems for you, then go for it.
