I think I have a worn out cam....#2 rocker doesn't move as much as the rest when engine is idle...I tighten it down - starts to move but not like the rest....If I need to replace the cam can I get away with tearing down entire motor?
Car is not driven alot...summer weekend cruiser...have a tight budget to work with.

Much as this hurts, if it's possible you've wiped a lobe, you could be circulating pieces of cam thru your engine. You should at the very least pull it out and give it a good once over. If you find any damage to your bearings, you MAY be able to just disassemble, flush out, and replace bearing and roll with it. Good luck!

I wiped a cam lobe in January. Flushed the engine, replaced the cam & lifters, followed break-in procedure, and have had no trouble.
The lobe and lifter were turned into iron filings which were found in my oil filter. Since then I've seen no further evidence of metal in a filter. I've changed the oil three times.
You'll probably be OK. If I had the time I would have partially disassembled the bottom end, just to be sure since the oil pan has to drop a little bit anyway. My car is a daily driver, so I didn't have much choice but to get it back on the road quickly.
Soon I'll have two engines and I'll be able to work on one while I'm driving the other. :D
