i am still working on my 68 chevelle so i dont drive it on the highway or for a long period of time. i usually just take runs up and down my street. after i am going at a certain speed and i start to slow down and turn into the driveway to turn back around, i hear this wierd squeaking noise that sounds like its coming from the back of the car. it only really squeaks when i start to turn. any ideas?

I *think* I've read here a couple of times that it has to do with the posi carrier or something with the positrac in your rear-end, and that most people put some good limited slip lube in their rear end to correct this. Of course, I could be remembering wrong and be way off. I'd check the transmission forum and do a search there.

Posi and limited slip are just different names for the same thing. Yes you should put the limited slip lube in.

Yes, GM makes a special lube for their Eaton style Posi's that lubes the plates better to hold both noise AND wear to a minimum.

I have a similar bottle/tube out in the garage, but I didn't buy GM's. I bought like stuff from one of the local Parts Houses for when I do my pdqCBB rear setup and after pulling my axles to put new end seals in the housing.

other things it could be i have seen when rims are changed out they rub when turning sharp corners against like shock mounting tabs or other piece, or brake parts that are broke inside and they rub too when the side loads move the axle in and out against the hub. or if you have wide tires and they rub the body inside.........or axle bearings that are going out make more noise when turning sharp.........or posi doing it like what was said.........just throwing some ideas out there...........that i have seen........oh sometimes even the exhaust is to close to the tires.........oh even brakes that have worned grooves in the drum will squeak too when you turn corners the movement of the axle pushes or pulls the drum into the brake........ok im done.......lol
