I need to swap out my flat cam, but don't want to pull engine. Everything is off the front of the engine, but not enough room to pull straight out because of grille, etc. Has anyone done this, and could you share any tips?

You need to remove the radiator, the grill, and part of the support pieces to be able to remove the cam.

Thanks, that confirms my thinking also. How do I remove the grill on my 66 - it looks like I have to hack off about 20 rivets?

I'd just take off the whole front end. I've done it on a 67 and it's not too bad at all. Might need a helping hand though. And while it's off it's a lot easier to do everything inside the engine compartment.

I did this on a Nova, and it wasn't worth the trouble. If I remember correctly, I even had to remove the front swaybar to get a puller on the harmonic balancer. When you start talking about removing the entire front end, is that really easier than three torque converter bolts, six bellhousing bolts, and two motor mount bolts?

And as long as you are doing the engine compartment you might as well pull the motor...
Oh my god this is how every thing I do to my car goes..at least I am not alone.
I started this spring with an intake & the car is still not together some five months & three grand later.Where do you draw the line??

I've changed camshafts in my 67 and didn't have to remove the front grille. I removed the radiator and that left enough room to slide the cam straight out. The cam then had to be angled out of the front area to clear the hoodlatch brace and front radiator support. I then installed the new one with not problems.
