: Coming soon...
cstraub Jan 27th, 12, 8:00 AM I am very happy to announce that myself and Jerry Cuddy, a Turbo Buick Engine Builder, have partnered up on a coatings company. The assets were purchased 2 weeks ago and we went and loaded all the equipment up yesterday on a Freightliner.
The owner had retired after 12 years of being in the business. We will maintain the existing customer base and expand the business into other markets. We will offer thermal, wear, and lubricity type coating services on customer supplied products. The 12 step process ensures the coating will adhere and promote its properties.
The owner had compiled filing cabinets of data over his years in business. The gains of power associated with coated pistons, intakes, valves and combustion chambers are remarkable. 40HP on a 410CID Outlaw sprint over the engine uncoated. The reuse of a $3700 billet crank saved by coated bearings after a dropped valve destroys engine. All the crank need was polishing.
The Power Coaters will be offering coated engine bearings, coated cylinder head combustion chambers, piston skirts and crowns, Intakes, turbo housings, ring and pinion sets, transmision gears, valves, and many other appllications.
We have leased a new building 8 miles from my warehouse and will be up and running by the 15th of this month.
I'll keep you posted.

Beaux Jan 27th, 12, 2:50 PM Ballpark what stuff like this costs? Figuring just for those that are taking things to the extreme to ring out every last ounce of power rather than us chumps with chincy builds planned for the 650 horse range in street cars that might see a road course / strip once or twice a year?
I'll eventually get to the point soon where I will be contacting you and Mike Lewis again to get something going between the 3 of us (that reads VERY strange but im leaving it) :D and trying to gather info and establish a baseline direction so I dont waste important folks time when they cant afford it.
im asking on behalf of slightly educated and somewhat ignorant rookies everywhere....I think.

Beaux,
It is on the website. www.straubtechnologies.com
bikeron Jan 27th, 12, 3:23 PM Hi Chris, went to the website to look. Could you add some pictures of how things (rod bearings, pistons with coatings and combustion chambers) after some use?
I've heard of issues with the longevity of these processes..
Thanks,
Ron
Lilracr Jan 27th, 12, 3:28 PM Sounds like a good move. Hope business does well for you.
When everything else is exhausted in limited rule classes, everything helps!

Ron,
I have seen the bearing out some of the Chevy and Ford Cup teams. 500 miles and these things are mint. Now for a street guy that is nothing but for a dragracer 2000 passes is quite a bit.
I will see if he has any pictures of heavy street miles.

Ring land area of the piston would be masked. The the skirts would go through 3 process of prep work then 4 process of coating. The coating is approximatly .0008".
Mikeys69 Jan 28th, 12, 9:49 AM Can you also remove old coatings?

Excellent, that should work well for me then:thumbsup:.
Once you are up and running, what do you think the turn around time would be?
Thanks again,
Steve
