I took my car out today and after 5 min of driving It started making a metalic whining noise, sounded like a peice of metal scraping on a pully or something.I checked it out and can't seem to see(hear) were it's coming from.alt, water pump. The pump pully doesn't move nor does the alt pully. Took it back out for a quick drive after a mile or so the noise went away, then after about 2-3 miles of driving ,it came back.
Could this be the water pump? like I said ,can't realy hear were it's coming from but it definitly sounds like the front somewhere.

Thanx for any help.

It sounds like the altenator. I had this happen not to long ago on my 69. The bushing inside the altenator wore out and siezed. It made a metal to metal sound when it would heat up. This caused the pulley to stop turning and broke the belt. That same belt turns the water pump on my car. If it's the same set up and you drive to far and this happens you could overheat the engine. The car will run a while on the battery then die. I would pull the belt and feel if pulley has any play, it should turn smoothly or take it out and have it checked. If it checks out ok, go to the water pump. I'm no expert, just my opinion. Good luck.
