smile.gif Oil pump for the new 400. Is a Melling M55
sufficient for this mainly street driven ride or should I consider the M55HV?
I promise there won't be many more questions on parts or machining. Next will be assembly tips :D

Thanks Chris, while I have you here I believe you are using the B&M 2400 holeshot convertor, right? Your opinion on it?

Jerry,yes I am using the 2400 Holeshot
It works good for my combo
It flashes to about 2800 in my car.

M55 is fine, HV is trouble imho. If you want to get trick with it, there's a step-by-step "trickening up" procedure in the book How to Hotrod BBC's. A few steps will make it like the $60 'blueprinted' pumps. Does Melling have a slightly higher pressure spring? They used to, to fit the mechanical lifter applications.

Are you saying I should maybe look into a higher pressure pump with the solid lifters? I can check and see if they have different springs available

Jerry,
Melling M55A is the hi pressure pump but you are paying about $10 extra for the spring :(

A Dremal Tool and a 1/8' dia. fine stone plus 30 minutes will do you nicely following the instructions in the book..
Been there, done it..
