OK, Thanks Guys. I got the info that my Q-jet (17080272) is from an 80 Pontiac 301 cu. in. 140hp (sounds real puney)

But what the heck is the CFM? Do I have enough to feed this 400SB with a mild cam?

Thanks in advance.

They only made two stock sizes!! A 750 and an 800cfm!!

I think E-brock owns the moulds/dies now and they have a 750, a 795 and an 850cfm!

Most all of the late Poncho carbs are 800 cfm. Can you post a pic?

Unless I am mistaken the late ones don't open all the way. They are more suited to the small no HP. motors.

Herb,
If you decide on a new carb, a buddy has a BRAND NEW Q-Jet Edelbrock 1901 that he can't use. Email me if your interested. The Pontiac will feed off the center or right side, where the chevy feels off the pass side. Also , the choke will not work. He had a Pontiac and got this carb. Both issues came to light before we put any gas thru it.

Thanks guys!!!
Here's where we're at with this thing; Just bought this car, the carb seems to work half ok, we'll definitely be rebuilding it. It's got an electric choke but Beenaway, you are correct, it's a center feed. Will e-mail you.

You can tell a 750 cfm Q-Jet from an 800 cfm one b/c the 800 has a little tit/bump in each front venturi that you can see by turning it upside down and looking through them!!!

That and the primaries are about .060" bigger or some such hard to tell number that they are indeed bigger then the 750 cfm carb's unless you have a 750 to check the primaries against..
