I just pulled my 396 out of the car and the crank pulley has a piece chipped off of it. I want to replace it but I cannot determine what the old one is. The motor is a 69 that is supposed to have the long water pump with the alternator on the passenger side but this motor has a short water pump with the alternator on the drivers side. The pulley is a 2 groove (only uses one) that is about 6 3/4 diameter. The balancer looks to be a 7 inch one. I am not sure what is okay or correct in rebuilding and replacing these parts. I would like to keep the alt on the drivers side since I have the brackets and stuff already. I am going to replace the water pump but do not know what years pump to ask for. So here are the questions I have:
1. Is the balancer correct?
2. What pulley do I look for?
3. What year is the water pump needed?
I ran the numbers on the block and it really is a 69 375 hp block. I was able to get the part numbers off the pulley and pump (pulley = 3863108BM , pump = 3856284). Also, what does it mean when the new pulley's say they are deep? Are they deep grooved or deep dished?
