I was going to slap some bearings into this truck so i could throw it back on the road, then i seen the condition of the bearings in the engine.. Copper is showing on the top of the #1 main and the bottom of the #5 main, all other mains look good. Copper is also shoing on the top of all 4 rod bearings.

sure looks like there was a real lack of oil sometime or another...bearings getting hot enough for blueing......anyway.....new bearing will hold up for awhile if thats what your looking for then do it.......engines that usually have bearings come out looking like that for the most part the crank needs to be turned......other wise in short order the new bearing will look the same........

if the engine knocked any then i would turn the crank.......but if it didnt then put new bearing in it and run it.....but it will slowly go away again....time wise hard to say......friend of mine had a 350 with a knock he had bearings that was gone but put new ones in and about aweek later it was knocking again and the bearings looked bad......crank out of round........

How many miles are on the motor?

And what was your oil pressure just before you pulled her down?

I thought detonation caused bearings to wear like that?? Top and bottom and not all the way around???

Otherwise, they don't look all that bad to me b/c the ones I pulled out of my old '64 Ford 260 motor years ago looked worse then that AND I just slapped in a stock set and ran the old bugger easy for more years then I want to remember!!

BUT I NEVER BEAT ON THE OLD hammering-leaky motor AT ALL!! NEVER!!!! I put at least a 100,000 more miles on her fine....

The moter is a rebuild 40 over 2.0, no idea on the miles since rebuild. It ran fine before the head gasket was replaced, then a few weeks after it started to hammer. I was never easy on this engine by a long shot so i figured it was abuse showing though...though i guess the timing could have been off enough for detination...i only ever ran 87 in it.
