Hey I guys I recently posted saying how my car was running hot and I turnd her off, and on returning to start her up again the starter sounded like it was grinding on the flexplate, so I bout a new Powermaster Gear reduction starter. I put it on and now instead of a grinding I hear a whining sound. I used a pry bar to turn the engine a could of time and its not seized. I also checked and the starter is getting 13 volts. please someone out there help im at my whits end.

Are the teeth engaging? If you have the small flexplate and the starter is installed in the large flexplate position, it will miss the ring gear. The whining sound makes me think this. What is the condition of the ring gear's teeth?

The teeth are engaging with the flexplate, I went under and jumped it to see what it looked like, it engages it looks almost as if just doesnt have enough power to do it but it certainly should, its getting 13 volts and its a gear reduction starter and the last one was stock. could the heat (230) have warped something making it tough to start, but i can turn by with a prybar not to dificultly

Would it need to be shimmed?

My starter came with instructions and shims for setting it up. The starter gear needs to be located correctly in relation to the ring gear for everything to work.

Check the voltage on the wire from the ignition switch. If it is low, needs to be 9 volts or more, the solenode might not be engaging all the way. Try jumpering from the battery connection to the "S" terminal. This will apply full battery voltage to the solenode bypassing the starter circuit wiring in the car. If it doesn't turn over the engine, you have other problems.

I tried jumping it with a full 12 volts and the same thing, the sound the starter makes is that of a starter with dead spout it comes out and just makes the sound I dont even think it tries to turn. Im gonna replace I hope it works

It could be a bad starter.

Hey guys, thanks for all your help... I took it to my local starter repair place and they bench testest it... whoever put it together put something in backwards and the starter was trying to spin the opposite way it should have been, all of this stress for nothing
