: Profanity & Porn
Florheel Dec 21st, 11, 5:33 PM A couple of days ago, I was reading the apology thread where a profanity laced post was referenced. I think it was mentioned that a post had displayed with 15-20 F-bombs in the body.
That got me to thinking about filter settings on my long drive to NC for Christmas last night. I often use my laptop in public places. The laptop has a very large screen, and I have my fonts set pretty large.
I was under the impression that F-bombs are filtered out on most forums, unless it was prominently announced on entry. I'm never seen F-bombs or foul language on TC, so I assumed that was the case here as well.
How did that many F-Bombs show up in a single post? Are they not filtered out on TC? Is there a setting or filter that I should adjust to keep prying eyes from catching a stray F-bomb at the McDonald's?
I'm no prude, but I don't want children or wandering eyes catching the wrong impression of me either.
BillsCamino Dec 21st, 11, 6:12 PM The offensive word's spelling was altered slightly to get thru the filter but the intended meaning was still very obvious.
quikss Dec 21st, 11, 6:18 PM Throw a second "u" in after the first one and the filters miss it. Its a shame that people will result to mis-spelling a word ever so slightly to make their profanity show up in a place they know very well it is not wanted nor accepted.

I'm not concerned with the intended meaning as nobody has that much time. I'm just concerned about little ones walking by, stopping to talk, etc.
Thanks for splainin' that one

to prevent everyone from seeing what is on your laptop screen =
there are plastic filter screens that go over the viewing area,
the screen will look dark when viewed at an angle.
you have to be directly in front of the screen to view with this device...
maybe something you want to check into...
Dean Dec 21st, 11, 7:34 PM Some people do tricks to cause the profanity to miss the words but when you read them, you still read them as the real word.
It's really sad that people can't talk (or type) without using profanity, even in public or on a public message board but I guess they are in real need for attention to themselves.
Not that I NEVER cuss myself, just not much and never in public.
Tod74 Dec 21st, 11, 8:30 PM NEVER tried it on team chevelle but normally any word filter can be beaten simply by changing the text color of one letter to black. it will look like this...(i will purposely mess up the script so it won't work to show what I mean)

got in trouble on another forum years ago for doing this...lol it was a forum nothing like this and such fooling around was kind of normal....was a forum for entertainment and not so much sharing of info like this one is.
Florheel Dec 21st, 11, 9:05 PM Thanks guys. I think I'm a little paranoid about it because several yrs ago the GF's adolescent daughter liked to look at bikes with me. Somebody got the bright idea to put their hotty wife's Victoria Secret spraddle legged pose as their sig pic. That was uncomfortable for both of us.
And thanks Vince for the screen suggestion. This laptop is the size of a billboard.
Mike Dec 21st, 11, 9:15 PM Ah ,that explains the porn part of the thread header.

Yep, I thought I'd better ask about that too, just in case.
Mike Dec 21st, 11, 9:51 PM There's been very few thread's that I found it necessary to delete the pics for being inappropriate here.
If you see anything questionable just hit the http://www.chevelles.com/forums/olp/images/buttons/report.gif at the top of each post.
