I just finished putting a rebuilt 396 in my Chevelle. Primed the engine checked everything about ten times and fired it up. Well about five minutes into the cam break in, I hear a knocking noise so I back off the idle. The knocking sounded like it was a loose rocker(roller tip). I shut the engine off and pulled the valve cover, sure enough the #5 exhaust rocker had a ton of play. Checked it out and the lifter is collapsed. Is there any way to get it to fill back up without replacing it. I did check the lift and it the same as the rest of the cam so I know it's not a wipped lobe, The engine only ran for about four to five minutes before I shut it off. I have to wait until Monday to contact the shop that built it. I would hate to have to remove the engine for a lifter. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I had that happen and pulled the lifter out and took it apart and found it to be very dirty. I just cleaned it out and it worked.
