I have a '72 El Camino with seat belts that wont buckle. The car hasn't been driven much for the last 10 years and I wonder if the buckles has rusted out. It is a bench seat and all three buckles suffer the same problem. Will cleaning help?

Hose them out and hit them with WD 40 or some other light oil.

I took the belts with buckles and placed them in a bucket of water with a little car wash soap and let them soak for a day. The water was black when i took the belts out. I used a hair dryer to dry the buckles then hit them with WD40. Two buckles work like new but one was still giving me problems. I looked inside to find part of a McDonald's plastic drink lid. Imagine that surprise. The selt belts work and look great. If anybody else is having a similar problem I definitely recommend cleaning. Thank you.
