: Using an engine stand

I just picked up my new crate engine last night, and bought an engine stand at Advance Auto today. It's got four adjustable arms on it. The instructions say to bolt these arms to the bellhousing bolt holes on the block. Which holes should I use?
Looking at the back of the block, there's one hole at the top center, and two holes on each side. the sid holes are only about 3" apart - it doesn't seem right that I would use these four holes. Also, the holes are threaded for 3/8" bolts. Are these bolts/holes strong enough to support the engine on the stand?
Thanks, and stand by for a lot more questions as I get ready to pull and drop engines.

Use the two holes on each side that are just down from the top center that you referred to earlier
and the two bottom holes. Did you get spacers, bolts and washers with yuor stand?

Thanks LKN BCK. I must have missed some holes. I only saw the top center one, two holes at the bottom and the holes directly above them, but they're only about 3" higher. I looked at some pics on HotRod magazine's engine stand review and see they attach to the two bottom holes and to two higher up, closer to the top. Maybe I just didn't see them, I'll look again tomorrow.

I didn't get any bolts with it to bolt to the engine. I have to buy them separate - I know they're 3/8" coarse thread, and I can measure the tubes on the stand for length, but mow much longer should I get to go into the block?

1/2" to 3/4" longer grade 5 to grade 8 will be fine.

Get a box of 3/8 washers to take up space in case the bolts bottom out in the engine.
