What do you mean by "any" 454? I think a more important question is, if you are building/buying for performance, what intake and air cleaner combo will fit using a stock flat hood/stock cowl hood/aftermarket cowl hood. All GM 454 blocks are the same size. Even aftermarket 454 blocks are the same size, only ones that aren't are the tall deck blocks (factory or aftermarket). I hope I've helped smile.gif

As for a tranny, I'd suggest a TH400. A TH350 would work if you just cruise and "baby" it. If you try to drive hard with it, you'll blow the TH350 pretty quick....unless you buy an aftermarket "race ready" TH350 that's built to handle a BB.

I'll argue the th350 post, I ran a stock rebuild th350 with a B&M shift kit and converter for 4.5 yrs and it worked great when i took it out, I then switched to a th400 and cooked the 2-3 clutches halfway thru the season, had more work done to the trans and put it back in,,,,fluid smells burnt once again, but made it thru the season. I have since swapped a th350 back into the car and picked up a tenth.

Also beat the living tar out of a 1975 T350 in a Nova. I mean stupidly beat it up ( so much as to shear the spring perch locating tabs off the left rear spring ) with only around 300hp, but, as far as I'm concerned they are just as strong as 400s and in my expereince more reliable. If you have a T350, run it. Talk to a good tranny guy and have him put 5 clutches in top gear for better longevity and beat the snot out of it.

Maybe Robert and I have the same luck???

WoW...that's pretty sweet. I personally haven't had any experiance with BBs or TH400s...I only posted on what I've read, heard, and seen here on this site. I'm contemplating on trading my 388ci for my buddy's 454...and if you guys have had really good luck using your TH350s, then I just might keep my TH350 if I do swap motors :D
