Has anyone transplanted a BBC 427 tall deck truck engine in a 70 chevelle. I recently aquired a 427T with casting number 473478. I think the date is J 7 2 (Oct 7, 1982?) with open oval heads casting number 343772. My 70 chevelle currently is without an engine. I think that it originally came with a SBC 307, but had a SBC 350 with a TH350 which was removed just before I purchased it. Did you replace the intake manifold or water pump. Also the oil pan is huge 6-8 quart maybe. It has a 4bbl carb that has a hole in the side of it. Any suggestions??

I don't know how much trouble you will have but the pan won't work. Don't throw it away that is the best oil pan made for a BB if you can get it in the chassis. We tried every trick pan there was in the bracket cars and always had oil pressure problems on deceleration. A fellow racer said get the pan you have and it will work. He was absolutely correct no more trouble.

Good luck finding headers. You will have to go custom. Plus most valve covers won't clearing Power Booster on brakes.

What about that huge water pump. The inlet side is about 2.5 inches in dia and the outlet looks like a goose neck poping out of a double egg and measures 2.0 inches. That big oil pan has a fitting tapped into the drivers side and went all the way around the front of the engine and up to a air compressor (probably for air brakes). The water pump also has additional piping going to and from the head of the air compressor. I bet that compressor weighs 30-40 pounds. Glad to have that thing off now. I appreciate all the comments on this post as I am a new kid on the bigblock. By the way are these heads those peanut heads?

Quite likely King. I hate to be a nay-sayer, but this is a poor choice for your first BBC build. Keep the crank.......
