After buying a set of 3.42 gears for my 12 bolt,I find I need a different carrier or a spacer to go from a 2.73 gear to the 3.42.
? is spacer a safe way to go?This is in my 72 Elcamino that probably won't see any strip just frogging around on the street.
I'm planning on beefing up the 402 after x-mas,so I'm starting with the rear end to compliment the extra HP.
Please advise????

I know that you can use a spacer on a 3 series carrier for 4 series gears but not sure about the 2 series carrier for 3 series gears. If it will fit, use it along with some grade 8 bolts.

No can do, you need a three series posi unit. DTS is selling BRAND NEW Eaton posi units for $350 and these are fully rebuildable unlike the Auburn units. Their number is 800-521-0628.

I would not use a spacer, period!
The ring gear will be not be supported by the carrier. This is a poor set up at best and if you plan on a power build you might as well do it right.
