I have read that you can go up to like a 550+ motor by boring to 4.375 after sonic checking the cylinder walls and then calculating a stroked crank up to that size!!

Of couse you have to use the .4" longer rods abnd grind on the block to get the long arm to fit but really not that big a deal..Imho..

PS., pick yourself up a copy of "How to Build Monster Chevy Big Block Motors" It is a very good book!! It's by Hot Rod Mag., Volume #10 by CARTECH

BTW, the book I mentioned has a chapter on page 61 telling how to put together a 4.350" bore x 4.625" stroke truck block motor using longer rods so I really figure the money for the book is good money spent!!

AND I know it's only a book...

to make 600+ cubic inches from a block only takes 1 thing... $$ and a hell of a lot of it....
502 is enough for me....

Well I drove out to summit and got THE book. (Thanks pdq67). Man it is easy to get carried away. I find myself thinking Do I need a 770 inch motor. Welllllll(dunno). Do I want one????? I better ask my wife graemlins/clonk.gif !!!!. .... Okay never mind. The 4.375 bore and 4.5 stroke combo look good. But I am thinking about that 4.75 inch arm. Now that would be awesome. Time for more homework about block fillers, Oil pan rail grinding and inserts, and $$$. Thanks for the feedback. As always I welcome more!!

I have been mouthing about a 588" motor using a Dart or Merlin standard deck block with a 4.625" bore x 4.375" stroke along with 6.440" rods and needed pistons but don't have the money or the nerve ta build it b/c LIKE I REALLY NEED IT since I don't even have my 496 in my car...

PS., sucker would look like a 396...

It is really tough to get a long stroke crank in the truck block. The clearence is the same a std height block and so is the water jacket. I built a 4in stroke one with alum. rods and had to grind an awful lot of metal for clearence. Get a Dart. I just saw a friend make a 555 out of a std heigth one with no problems. The oil is moved up and the block has a ton of room for a big crank.

Mike I have lusted after those blocks! I just dont have the bucks right now. I read that folks have stuffed long arms into the truck blocks and am trying to get a feel for just what I can get away with.
