Hey guys, i just put my engine back together and i was getting it running, and i had the timing to far advanced and it jammed the starter (it was a stock chevy starter), and it wouldn't go away, I got a new, higher torque performance starter, it still makes that terrible noise, any ideas with whats wrong?

Could be the teeth on the flexplate got chewed up, or your starter to flexplate clearance could be off.

Checkout Starter Procedure

1. Pull pinion into flywheel place a screw driver behind the gear and pull forward
2. It will start to go back then stop still engaged in flywheel
3. Turn engine (flywheel) just a little, manually
4. Pinion should retract all the way
5. If it does no retract install one (1) .012 shim.
6. If you pull the pinion gear forward and it snaps back without stopping then you have to take about .040 off the mounting block or take the starter back.

Be sure that mounting block is not hitting the pan so it will lie flat the corner that’s relived may have to be ground off some more.

Nick be sure you have installed the brace at the rear of the starter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Trust me if you dont you will be replacing a lot of starters. If you pay close attention to the bolts as you loosen them you will see what I mean The starter will twist around the bolts ever so slightly. Believe me I replaced about 6 starters before I nailed it down. you can search on the camaro site on my name. Good luck!

When you say hi torque do you mean the new mini starters. Otherwise use the brace.
