Does anyone know if the Ls1 is internal or externally balanced? Assuming it is an internal balance could a Ls1 flywheel bolt to a 2 piece rear main seal internal balance big block?
Thanks

I'm guessing but I think the chances are slim to none. The crank will probably be something like the other GM one-piece seal ones and they won't.

Hi,
The LS-1 is internally balanced. The bolt pattern is unique, the flywheel from GM comes with clutch pressure plate and disc as a unit. Its expensive!
Why do you want a LS-1 flywheel?

Dane,
You're doing a T-56 swap, right? For the LS1 T56, McLeod makes an adapter plate that you can buy from Summit for $230. The adapter will mate your LS1 T56 to the stock style clutch and bellhousing for your car. This way, you can run any clutch you want and it does not have to be an LS1 type clutch. Also, you'll never be able to get an LS1 bellhousing to bolt up to an older block, even if you could get the LS1 crank to work.

Good luck,
Ryan

I read somewhere that the ONLY part that will interchange between a LS1 and 'older' smallblock is the rod bearings. (same as a small journal Gen I)

Yes I am doing a T-56 swap I bought a Weir Hot Rod Products kit which is a custom bellhousing for a ls1 to older style. So the adapter plate wasnt the issue I was looking at the T-56 on ebay with a flywheel and all and was wondering if I could save some $$$ by using the 'free' flywheel that came with it rather then buy a new one. So I guess I need to buy one ehh?
