: Short block - Orange or black?

I'm getting a bunch of stuff together to do a few upgrades to my ZZ4 this winter, and I'll be painting it while it's out and apart. It's black now, but I've been thinking of painting the shortblock orange for a more traditional look. The only thing I'm not sure about is how it will look orange with centerbolt covers. Just looking for opinions, thanks.

Makes them almost look like the old LT-1 covers. I didn't think of painting the covers silver. I'm not painting the heads, so I think that wouldn't look to bad. Thanks for the pic.

Steve,
Those are actually ball-milled chrome covers. They do kinda look painted in the pic though.

Do you know if they will clear roller rockers? I thought about going with cast aluminum covers, but I'd hate to find out they don't clear.

Not a clue. I was running stamped rockers on that thing. I do know those were the "short" version and there was a taller set available too. I had bought em' from my old work, but I bet they come from Summit because that guy ordered everything from there.

alot of it is hidden, but where it peaks throw, it looks good, much nicer than all orange, and the intake matches them just fine.

I prefer the black. It hides the dirt more.

We painted ours black. The car will be yellow and we're going to use finned valve covers with the same yellow between the fins, along with yellow plug wires. With yellow, we were concerned it would clash too much with the traditional orange block and heads.

Also, with the chrome engine trim, we felt the black would set it off more...

My ext. paint is blue so I did the block GM corp. blue. Looks good, but I may leave the motor Im going to build orange just to add some contrast.
