: 454 ID numbers
72ElCaminoSS May 31st, 04, 8:58 PM Got my 454 torn down today. I'll likely be replacing most of it anyway. But, here are the numbers off of it.
Block
casting
3999289
Engine ID 10927TSD
VIN 05J107803
Heads
GM9T
1974
Casting
336781
Manifold
Conv 6
Casting 340218
I took the cam out. But, I didn't get the numbers from it.
From what I can tell, it looks to be a 1975 2 bolt out of a truck, 215 HP, manufactured in 1974 in Janesville? Am I way off?
Texas70 May 31st, 04, 9:11 PM I'm not sure about the block, but those are great open chamber oval port heads. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

They're 113cm from what I've read. But, I'm assuming they can be ported to a decent size?
Busted Knuckles May 31st, 04, 11:50 PM You done good. That's supposed to be one of the thickest cylinder wall castings GM ever made. The -781 heads were Lingenfelter's choice of all the factory ovals. Put some bigger valves in, blend the bowls and build yourself a tire shredder. HTH
72ElCaminoSS Oct 28th, 04, 12:40 PM Well, got this thing down to Dougan's and they starting work on it. It cleaned up great and looks new.
I'll be going for a strong street engine and the compression should be about 9.3:1. The rods and crank will be stock. But, they said they're pretty good and they could beef them up a bit.
pdq67 Oct 28th, 04, 8:17 PM TSD is a 1975 454, four barrel, 245hp, TH400 motor out of a '75 C/K 20 and 30 P/U.
The 454 core motor I made my 496 out of is a TSC which is just the stick motor..

Mine were 116cc after they had been milled before I got them. I don't know how much had been taken off but it was a bad job that I had redone. I have the same number block but mine is a 4 bolt main. I don't know if it left the factory that way or not. Some of the 289 blocks were 4 bolts.

pdq67 I was going to make it a stroker. But, since I'm using my stock crank and rods, it'd run me at least 1K extra.
Thanks for the info...

But, my block looks like it's never had anything done to it (they just ran it till it died). I'll find out when I drop them off next week.
