Does anyone know what the Horsepower and Torque figures are for a 76' Chevelle S-3. The engine type is a 400 small block. Only 1000 of this type of car was made and i can't find the Horsepower or Torque. If anyone can help i would be very happy. Thank you.

looking in the trusty rust encylopedia of american cars it shows the only 400 avialble was a 175 hp sorry it doesn't show the torque

Chilton shows 175hp@3600rpm and 305tq@2000rpm.
It also specifies it as a 4bbl. That's not by any chance one of those "big block 400s", is it?

Edit: It also shows a 4" stroke, so I guess it is a big block. No offense, but are you sure yours is a small block?

No big blocks where available in Chevy paasenger cars after 1974...this is just a 1976 400 small block we're talking here http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

That is a small block my dad ordered a new 76 Monte Carlo with a 400 small block. It was black with a white interior bench seat with factory guages and no air. Cost 4800.00 new. The S-3 or any other full size car would have had that motor. 175hp sounds correct. He bought that car and sold the 69 SS to pay for it. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif
