: Really simple and dumb BBC questions: fuel pump attachment and "vintage" valve cover

Okay, I've traditionally been a SBC guy and I'm building my first BBC. I'm building my BBC from scratch so I basically started with a bare block. I have the parts to pretty much build the long block as soon as my crank/rod/pistons come back from being balanced. Right now I'm trying to buy all those little parts you need to complete an engine.

Does the BBC use an adaptor plate to mount the fuel pump (like on a SBC) or does the fuel pump simply bolt directly to the block?

I saw some cool no-name polished cast metal valve covers I am considering. They are not incredibly tall but taller than stock which will help clear my roller rockers. While they look pretty nice, they are not as well finished as I had hoped with rough casting showing at the edges and between the ribs. For $100 though I could probably just polish on them some more and have them look great. I'm shooting for a stock-ish or vintage (1965) hot rod look, does anyone else know of any no-brandname ribbed valve covers that are available? Cast is preffered to stamped steel.

Fuel pump bolts right to the block. Can't help you with the valve covers, sorry.

Rich, I beleive there is a bolt hole also by the fuel pump rod to hold it in place while putting the fuel pump on.
I see sets of the old ribbed covers on E-Bay pretty often made by M/T http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33627&item=7951806036&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW or unpolished http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=42606&item=4525233899&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Rich...Edelbrock makes a nice set of ribbed covers, with and without the Edlebrock name...I think I am going to get set with the no name for my SB.

Rich , maybe not HotRod enough for you but there are taller stock appearing plain metal valve covers availalble I have seen them powdercoated Chevy orange ( even consider topcoating with powder coat clear) with a stock looking engine with headers and the GM 14" chrome air cleaner/ 427 decal, looks great, if you go back about a year in Chevelle World a white 66 300 with stroker BB done that way looked tough and period .... just my opinion

Find a pair of the old Cal Custom covers. They look great and are inbetween in height. You can also just double gasket a set of standard covers.
