Has anyone run a edlebrock performer oval port intake on a set of 454 peanut port heads? I have a 454 out of a truck 40 over 8 to 1 comp 260H comp cam. will this work? I intend to put it in a 72 chevelle or my 71 camaro. Would I be better off using the factory cast intake for the peanut port heads? I,m not looking to build a race car just always wanted a big block in a daily driver. Also, I have a 454 4bolt block out of a 70,s truck the main caps got lost and it,s been bored 60 over is this now a boat anchor? or is it worth saving? Anybody want to trade?

First, the main cap problem is a big problem b/c it probably will cost more to fit main caps to it then what a different bare block might be worth.. shop the Machine Shops to find out cost to put caps on your block...

Second, E-brock makes a Performer that fits the peanut port heads but I don't know what the PN is??

Third, an 8 to 1 454 motor is fine like you are setting it up as being a mild street motor in a car with only the CC 260HE cam, imho..

Should run very well up to it's rpm limit which is around 5,000rpm or so, imho..

I've run a performer before with peanut ports..sure is an upgrade over the cast iron stocker.

good advice here!! As far as missing main caps I would shop a few swap meets and pick up several sets before calling it a boat anchor...

I wonder how much more $$ it would be to put 4 bolt splayed caps on there? You are still in for an align bore, then hone to fit new caps to the block, good machine work isnt cheap, but you should end up with a great straight saddle..

thanks for the ideas on the 454 block, I think I'm just going to try and swap it for some other stuff I really don't need. Jim

any idea what this combo would do? carbs I have are holley 3310 or an edlebrock 1407, summit 1 3/4 headers w 2.5 in. pipe t-400 w/ 1700 stock converter and 3.08 gears with 275 60 15 tires. In a 71 camaro or 72 chevelle haven't decided which car gets the motor yet.

I'd use the 3310 Holley for sure,as it has worked well in my combo.
I highly advise you to use a higher than stock stall convertor too..somewhere in the 2100-2400 zone for improved and quicker throttle response.
With the aforementioned carb/convertor and most importantly, traction you might see some mid-high 13 second runs if all dialed in and tuned well. But,if you skip on the convertor, probably a 13.90/14.10
The mild cam,low compression, stock convertor, and lazy gear will work against you ET wise, but there is always an equalizer:
You got cubes on your side graemlins/thumbsup.gif
And the other "reasonable" equalizer is a convertor.
If you really want to have some fun, throw some 3.73's in there, little more cam,up to a 3000 stall, and watch what happens :D
