After logging in or changing pages the window jumps to the bottom of the page. This began on 10-1-11 after installing new version of Firefox.

I'm using 7.0.1 without any issue as you describe.
V7.0 had some issues so if that's what your on ,update to 7.0.1
Try clearing the cache and see if it resolves itself.

Same here, and I have not installed anything new ,

therefore I would think it has to do with the sites programing that was changed from
" go to first thread posted on page X "
to
" go to last thread posted on page X "

My problem corrected itself -or- the installation of a "corrected" update for a Firefox add-on fixed it.
