I'm looking at a 383 kit, which allows the buyer to choose a cam out of the ones i listed. I'm looking for recommendations on which one I should choose for a good street engine (weekend driver) with an occasional distance road trip. Not an everyday driver.

229-1988, with that mild gear, I'd go with this mild cam for sure. Any idea what the compression will be?

Ditto the 214 cam!!

AND even the little 266/209 cam if your CR. is low b/c it should make alotta low to midrange grunt!!!!!

Years ago, I ran the 327-350 cam in a 350CI, stock 74 motor w/ 8.5CR and a 2:73 gear. Car was a stone. Later put in 3:73's, same combo - car ran great - used to beat up on my buddie's '70 Mach I w/ the 351 4V Cleveland.

In retrospect, I wouldn't go much bigger in duration. A cam like this has mild ramps compared to today's cams, but is easier on parts. I had 20,000 on that combo before the car was wrecked - no valvetrain problems at all.
