: Headers and steering column

I am sorry I posted this in troubleshooting as well, but I was getting no suggestions and I am at a loss.

My car went in for a cam swap and the guy pulled the engine. It was winter here and my garage is not heated, so he pulled the engine for me. I've done it plenty of times with no issues (aside from whatever reason I was pulling the engine!)
Anyway, the engine is back in, the car runs and drives, the fixed torque converter is back in, but this never happened before-- but the headers now hit the steering column and they never did before.
But if I recall correctly, I had to cut the A-arm bolts on the other side so they wouldn't hit the headers.
How can I fix this? How can the engine go in more than one way- up down, left right?
I am going to assume he didn't mess with the lower mounts because those are impossible to deal with. And that all he did was remove the single bolts in the middle little I dunno what are they called clam shell things? Thats how I always do it. How could things have gone in different this time?
Thanks!

That is a good one. I don't know what to say. Have you checked to see that the engine is mounted level? I have seen engines bolted in cockeyed a little from one side to the other. Let's say that your driver's side of the engine is for some reason higher than the passenger side - that would cause the interference you are talking about.

Is it safe to assume the header gaskets were changed? If so same kind? my headers are real close to the steering link, if you use a metal type like Earls they may eat up what little clearance you had. Another thing is a bent header flange, this would cause the header to sit in a different position. I hope it's something simple, good luck.

I belive what happedn is, the frame mounts are slotted. I guessing the engine is at the top of one of the slots on one side and the bottom of the slot on the other side.

What BadRat said. This is why I measure side to side level of engine during installation - it is amazingly easy to get it in a little skewed.

And the slots are on the lower mounts?

Or are they part of the upper I have just always overlooked?
