OK, here's the deal... I'm replacing the early 90's (?) one piece rear seal 305 in my 64 wagon with a more playful 327. I found a buyer for the 305, but he only wants it if the crank is machined for a throw-out bearing. Is there anyway to tell without pulling the motor first? Was there a certain year that all cranks started coming with the machined area? Any and all help would be appreciated.

Tommy,
I think you mean "pilot" bearing, not "throwout" bearing. As far as I know, all small block cranks up to the present are machined to accept a pilot bearing or bushing in the back. I do not know of any diffences in the rear of the crankshafts. If you want to know for sure, go buy a pilot bushing, they are only a couple of bucks, and see if you can drive it into the back of the crank.

Wow, I am a little tired, but typing throw-out when I meant pilot is pretty bad. Thanks for the correction.
