Say folks I am in the process of going from a SB to a 396 in my 66 Malibu with a stock hood. I had planned on ordering a Edelbrock RPM Intake, Jeg's has a statement in their web site add that states this manifold will not work on a stock 65-67 Chevelle hood. Can anyone tell me if they have had any experience with this combo on a 66-67? I want to stay with a square bore set up. Any inputs will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't actually used that manifold, but alot also depends on the air cleaner you choose. A drop-base can improve clearance, as well as a shorter filter.
Trying to find out the same info to use one on my 65 w/ BB . Someone told me that he had seen a 65 /w a Air Gap on it. That has the same height as the RPM according to Edelbrock's tech info. Also heard the same as 66 L 78 just posted . But , I wouldn't mind seeing it for myself. I did see a picture of a 64 BB w/ a Performer on it. Jay

It'll fit as long as you use this type of air cleaner. This is a 66 with the stock SS hood.

Is that a short water pump with the alt on the passenger side? Very nice graemlins/thumbsup.gif ...what brackets/pulleys did you use? Do you have power steering as well?
I've seen this done with the Concept One system...but it is way out of my price range.
Sorry to hi-jack the post

Yep, short pump with the alternator on the "wrong" side. I made the mount for the alternator bottom bolt. Pure custom :D Yes it has power steering on it. I couldn't get the power steering pump with the integral tank to work with the alternator where it should have been so I moved it to the other side.

Thanks Lance for the picture. If I may ask what type/brand air cleaner are you running. Would you happen to have a part number? Man I am glad to hear that a Performer RPM will fit period. Thanks again for everyone's help.

Jesse,
I don't know what brand it is... It's just one of those inexpensive "muscle car drop base" air cleaners that you see at the swapmeets. It's close to the hood but does clear. I wasn't happy with how close it was so I removed some of the ring on the bottom of the air cleaner where it sits on the carburetor. If you decide to change the air filter this way let me know and I'll get you some pictures of what I did. Don't mis-interpret that statement. It will fit without modifying the air cleaner from the way you buy it.

Jesse,
Here is another one that fits just fine on a 66, check out my engine pic under my signature.

Thanks very much Lance and Bill for the pictures and air cleaner info, I must say both engines are beautiful, I only hope mine turns out half as nice as your two. I am going to go ahead and order the Performer RPM, I forgot to mention in my first post that I have ran a Performer RPM with no clearance problems on my 350 SB, my concern is how much taller in the saddle will the BB be? Thanks again very much.
