: trying to match engine to Vin on car

I have a '66 elky fully restored but know one knows (rebuilder had a confusing time tryig to sort this out back in '87) if the this was the oerignal engine from this 66. It's a 396 With 325 HP, 2speed powerglide, And original air. this Vin on the car is 136806Z102720.

Any help would be greatly appresciated

Here you go and from this site even.

1= Chevy
36= Malibu, Custom Elky, or Wagon 8 cyl
80= Elky
6= 1966
Z= Fremont, CA Plant
102720= Sequential Production # for the Fremont plant.

Is the VIN # Stamped in front of the head on the passenger side front pad of the block?

Thanks Chris - it appears that the engine is from a 325 hp -'66 as the # on the engine block is 3855961 which corrolates with your document that was posted. I feel much better knowing that the parts match.

I also live in Castle Rock, up in Founders Village. I have a '66 SS Malibu I am restoring. If there is anything I can help with, let me know. Would enjoy checking out your Elky some day.
