: Pick Me An Oil Pan For A 383

I could use a cheap oil pan for my 383 buildup. I'm worried about clearancing problems with my stock one. So I could use a cheap on that would work. Doesn't really matter what color, preferably steel, chrome, or black(engine color).
Thanks

Don't know about "cheap", but I have had good results with Milodon and Moroso. Use a good pan gasket (one piece works well for me) and make sure that the oil pump pickup is not too close (or too far away from) the floor of the pan.

I bought a used 400SBC pan off of ebay, for cheap. Scrubbed it with Scotch Brite, shot it orange.

Cheers,
mark.

Thanks Bill and Mark

Well, I'll just ask this. Will a 350 pan work or do I need a 400 pan? And if I get a 400 pan, will I have to do any mods? I don't really have a lot of time to mess around(supposed to have the engine together by tuesday for college and i'm still waiting on parts). http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

I bought a Summit brand steel oil pan (Orange powder coated) for my 406. It costs $25.69 in the new catalog (pg.53) and works fine.

Thanks Gary. That should work for my 383 then. Do you happen to know the part number?
Thanks

I ended up getting the Milodon claimer pan, I believe the part number is something like 81503.

The claimer pans are not required but that is what I was going to suggest. They are really nice pieces and they are stock dimensions so they fit about everything.
