I have a 68 Chevelle with a 69 396/375 hp motor in it. What is my rpm redline? I think the motor is stock except for external bolt ons.

If the motor is in good shape, you should be able to wind it to about 5500 rpm.

WOT until you get valve float, then mark your tach with a sharpie at that RPM. smile.gif

I would agree with Engineguy on 5500 RPM. This will keep your Mean Piston Speed (MPS) under 3,500 ft/min (a good guideline for your stock engine).

Wow 5500 rpms huh. Well if thats your redline, next time you set valve lash, set it 2-3 thou loose. It will clatter more and give you more midrange.

I would think , in good condition, that's a 6000 rpm motor easy. Factory redline would have been 6500.
