Just heard from the engine builder. He got me a different cam than what I had, and I was wondering what difference in power/drivability it would make.

Old Cam - 280 duration, .480 lift, 110 centerline
New Cam - 286 duration, .480 lift, 108 centerline

Engine;

350 stock bore
Stock crank
Summit Stage II fords
10.4:1 forged TRW pistons
Vortec heads withupgraded valve springs
Holley 670 carb
Edelbrock rpm air gap intake
dynomax 1 5/8 ceramic headers.
2400-2800 stall converter
TH350 trans
3.42 rear gears.

I doubt you will notice anything..what is the duration @ .050 for both cams?

i THINK that the 108 vs 110 will give you a bit more torque, more lope, less vacuum. but i am not a cam expert so i will readily stand corrected by someone who is.

Vac isnt that big of a deal since I have no power accessories.

sounds sweet. hows the old cam? usable?

how would that old cam perform in a 305, with headers dual plane intake and Qjet? no power acc. as well.

aaron Old cam is being replaced because bearing material chewed it up. :( Trust me, I dont like spending $200 on a new cam when my old one only had 100 miles on it.

pqd, not if his compression is at 10.4 or there abouts, but for the gearing, yes.

The 286 on a 108 will be noticeable rattier idling, and noticeably more shallow at very low rpms. Hope your converter tames it down some. When someones says " 108 LSA " I'd usually look to 3000 stall automatically unless durations are less than 225 or thereabouts.

If the motor makes good power, hopefully the converter will be stalling closer to the 2800 mark.

Gene,

I was going by the 3.08's and the fact that I haven't heard about many high compressioned 305's out there.. Usually they are warmed over stockers so are down on compression to me is all...

But good points..

Thanks.

Too many beers at lunch Paul?

All I see are 350 and 3.42 gears...
