i have posted several messages dealing w/ my electrical system on a 72 malibu 350. i have all of that figured out, and fixed, except for the dummy lights. when i turn the key to the off postiion(able to pull it out) sometimes the dummy lights will stay on, or when you close the door they will come on, or i will come back a few hours later, and the lights will be on, sometimes dim, and get brighter, and then shut off. why is this??? someone said the voltage regulator, but i tapped on it, and it didn't make a difference. if you have any idea why????? or how to fix it i am all ears!!! thanks in advance!

Tapping on the volt. reg. won't tell you a thing. Mark the wires, then diconnect them. But like DB says, -------grounds. If you find out that you have a bad alt., change to internal reg. alt. Get rid of the external reg. The new wiring harness is only $10-$12.
