I'm doing a cam swap in my 350 and I was wondering if anyone had any opinion on different companies gasket kits. Like the fel-pro, fel-pro performance, and Mr. Gasket. I was just curious if any one found one companies to perform better than anothers. I have all Fel-Pro in the egine now and they all seal fine except for the timing cover. But I attest that to a cheap dress up cover that is getting changed as well.
My engine is just a stock 350 with heads from a 400 on it and I have an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold with a Performer carb. The cam going in is a Comp cams 268H with hydrolic lifters and I will be putting on some comp cams Magnum series cromo. roller tip rockers, 1.5 ratio.

The intake gasket is the only one that can be critical. With an aluminum intake you need a gasket compatable with it. The hard blue gasket in the Fel-Pro set is not a good choice. I've not had any problems with the timing cover gasket. As you say, the cheap cover could be the problem.

I use fel pro on everything, except intake, and I use mr gasket ultra seal on it along with RTV around the water trails. Your problem like pat said is the cover. You can get a no name aluminum from most good speed shop for a easonable price. I also use a very thin layer of the blue gasket sealer on the cover amd like most things I do I use a torque wrench.

I've used both UltraSeal and Fel-Pro Print-o-Seal intake gaskets with excellent results.

Thanks guys, I already have an aluminum cover to put on I've just been waiting untill I got the rest of the parts for the cam swap and finally Sat. I can do it. I think I actually have the Mr. Gaskett intake gaskets on now and I'll be sure to get another set of those.

I just wanted to share with everyone the lesson I learned the second time last weekend. Dont' use the no name gaskets that come with many parts. The aluminum timing cover I got (cheap from e-bay) had a no-mane gasket with it and I used it instead of buying a felpro one. The gasket held fine but the cheap a$$ cover didn't seal with my oil pan at all and I had to pull it right back off after it started spewing oil during the cam break in run. And the cheap gasket shredded when I pulled the cover leaving me way more cleanup work than should have been necessary. I dug in my garage for my old stock GM cover and bought a fel-pro gasket and now everything is fine.
So I guess what I'm saying is don't waste time with cheap gaskets and watch out for parts that seem to cheap to be true. I know it's rookie advice but hey people like me need to hear it sometimes.
Awhile ago I used the gasket that came with my headers only change them 2 days later when they blew out.

If it was an inferior cover you got off ebay, make sure and leave feedback so others don't waste their money and time. Oh Yea, always use a good gasket, just keep the junky gaskets for emergency spare in case for some reason a parts house is not open for some reason.
