Questions with Decoding
I have a 68 convertible that I acquired. The owner before me said the car has the original 307 and automatic transmission. How do I go about verifying if the car does have the original motor and trans?
I found the engine casting number (3914689) and it seems to be consistent with the number sequence found on motors used in 68 cars. What else can I check?
How do I verify the transmission is original?
I have heard the term” the car has matching number” what does that mean?

Questions with Value
Would the car be worth more with an original 307 or a new 350? I have been toying with the idea of putting a new motor and transmission in the car, but I’m unsure if that would decrease the value of the car. Any suggestions would be great.
(I’m already planning on going to power disk brakes, so have I already gone away from the value of having a stock car?)

Thanks,
