I pulled the rear main cap on the LS5 last night to do the main seal and I was inspecting the bearing. I will try to post some pictures later today. I'm going to try to describe it to you first though. In the center of it (in terms of the length of the bearing) the surface is dull looking (though not rough). To the left and right of that, there are areas that are somewhat shiny ( they extend out to the ends of the bearing in terms of width). Overall, there is no pitting or scoring. I'm not very familiar with wear patterns and I don't know if this is excessive or normal wear. I'm not sure when the motor was rebuilt last, but judging by the paint job that was on the motor, it has been a while. The odometer says 25,000 miles...we just got the car this summer. I'm just trying to figure out if we should be considering a rebuild now or not. The car ran great when we took the motor out...I just figured that I would do a main seal while it was out of the car. I'll get pictures asap...thanks a lot guys!
