I did a search and found some info but would like to narrow it down a little more. For a motor with headers going into a '67,what would be a better fit for plugs, angle or straight heads? Thanks guys

I've never had any luck with angle plugs... they are always a PITA. I'd rather lose the alleged 1-2HP and put on head with straight plugs than deal with angled ones.

This if from rod and custom magazine:
"The consensus was that original angle-plug heads were worth 10-12 hp on high-compression engines because, with the plug higher in the chambers, the flamefront was no longer blocked by the piston dome. In fact, the angled plugs made it possible to run even taller domes for even higher compression ratios that were previously impractical due to flamefront blockage by the piston dome."

That is on OEM heads with domed pistons... both of those are bad things IMO. And sure, you'd possible gain 10 HP or so when using domed pistons, but that only offsets the loss of 10HP from using domed pistons in the 1st place. Plus, newer designed heads have plugs higher in the chamber to solve that problem that once existed many years ago.

If you want the advantage of angled plugs then index your straight plugs... you might see a 2HP gain from that.

I'm just wondering what will clear the headers better.Good info though.

I've ALWAYS had issues getting around the headers with those angled plugs. But I suppose if you get a set of headers that says they work with angled plugs... and they actually DO work... then angled would be pretty easy. I've never been so fortunate though.

I guess I'm gonna go with the straight plug.Hey Fried, are you using a stock hood with that air gap manifold? Thanks

I sure am. But I only have a 2-1/4" air filter that has a drop base. Eventually I'll get a cowl hood so I can put in a taller air cleaner.

I have a set of angle plug heads on my 69 Camaro (492 castings), and bought a set of headers from Dynomax, specifically intended for use with angle plug heads. Right...... graemlins/angry.gif Had to use shortie spark plugs, and then on one of them, I even had to trim the top of the plug with my dremel, and then beat the crap out of the #3 header tube pipe to get the plug on, and then had to get a high temp plug wire boot to boot! Boot to boot, I like that! Seriously, save yourself the headaches and use the straight plug heads, it's not worth it for 2 HP! KZ
